FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where is your office?

My office is located between 38th and 39th Streets:

260 Madison Avenue, Suite 8039 New York, NY 10016

It’s a few minutes’ walk from Grand Central Station and is easily accessible from the 4, 5, 6, 7, F, and M trains, as well as several bus lines.

What will happen at my first session?

When you enter the lobby, you’ll tell the person at the desk that you’re going to the 8th floor. The 8th floor has a reception area with seating. I’ll come out to meet you when it’s time for your session.

The first session gives us a chance to get to know each other. We’ll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, as well as what you hope to get from therapy. You’ll get a sense of who I am and how I work with people.

NOTE: Due to Covid-19, all sessions are Tele-therapy sessions at this time.

How long will therapy take?

For many clients, simply starting therapy produces feelings of hope and relief. After that… it depends on what you seek.

Each person or couple is unique. Some people seek help with a specific situation, or issue, that can be addressed in a relatively short period of time. Others are dealing with more complex issues, or transitions, and find they want more time to process their feelings and thoughts.

Either way, I will be checking with you throughout the process to see how you think things are going and what are your current needs. We’ll talk about your goals, the progress you’ve made, and go over any concerns you have.

Will you tell me what to do to fix things?

Nope.

What I will do is help you get clear on what you feel, think, want, and what is really going on. As you build clarity and self-acceptance, you will gain confidence in your perceptions and the ability to choose effective action based on those perceptions.

During the process of therapy, you will likely find that you increasingly “know what to do.” I will bring all my attention to our collaboration. Depending on your needs, we may work on skills to deal with specific symptoms or situations. But the answers will emerge from you, from the work we do together, and from the healing nature of the therapeutic relationship.

I’ve been told that it’s okay to cry in therapy. But, is it okay to laugh?

Laughing is more than okay. It’s almost mandatory and probably inevitable. Like crying, laughter is a release. And release is part of what moves therapy forward.

Don’t worry, you’re under no obligation to laugh at my jokes.

What are your fees?

My fee is $180 for a 50-minute individual session and $200 for a 60-minute couples’ session.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in-network with UHC-Oxford, Aetna, and Cigna. For all other insurances I am an out-of-network provider. My office checks all-out-of-network benefits, submits the claims for you, and receives the insurance reimbursement directly, leaving you to pay just a small percentage of the fee (this percentage depends on your plan).
